FAQ/Myths

Can I get stuck in hypnosis? No. You are in control at all times. You can choose to come out of hypnosis at any time and simply open your eyes whenever you want to.

Am I unconscious? No. Brain wave patterns show that you are simply in a deep state of relaxation and not asleep or unconscious. You are aware of everything that is going on and can talk to the therapist at any time.

Can you make me do silly things? Only if you want to! You are not under anybody’s control and you will only accept suggestions that are beneficial to you. If you wanted to, you could come out of the state of hypnosis at any time you liked.

What does it feel like? There is no such thing as a hypnotised feeling. Some people feel heavy, some feel light or even tingly; others feel nothing at all. However, all clients tell me they have really enjoyed the deep relaxation.

Is hypnotherapy safe? Hypnosis is a totally natural state. Hypnotherapy has been used in numerous ways for thousands of years. Nowadays it is being used more and more alongside traditional medicine and dentistry; it is even used as an alternative to anaesthesia.

Can anyone be hypnotised? Almost anyone can be hypnotised if they want to be, except when someone is under the influence of alcohol or drugs, or if they have severe learning difficulties. However you cannot be made to do anything against your will.

Why is it different to the stage shows? The stage hypnotist is skilled in choosing individuals who are very suggestible and who want to behave as outrageously as possible! They believe that the hypnotist will make them do something silly and go along with it. Hypnosis slightly lowers natural inhibitions but the person remains totally aware and can choose whether or not to follow the hypnotist’s suggestions.

Will I reveal things I don’t want to? No. You are aware and in control at all times. If there is something you really don’t want to tell me, you won’t.

Are there side effects? Sometimes when one issue is resolved, it can have beneficial effects on other areas of your life too.
